Congratulations to Angie White, who will be the Rotman Institute of Philosophy Postdoctoral Fellow in Bioethics in beginning in September 2011. Besides Bioethics, Angie also specializes in political, legal, and social philosophy. After beginning in Nursing at Dalhousie, Angie transferred into philosophy when inspired to do so by a Nursing Ethics course. Her graduate studies brought her to Western, where she is currently a resident student in the Rotman Institute.
Angie is interested in seeking to understand the legitimacy of particular institutions in modern liberal democracies using a framework of legitimacy she has developed. Institutions she considers using this framework include governments, judiciaries, citizens' assemblies, consensus conferences, research ethics institutions, and public health.
